Support / Re: Problems when compiling with vs2015

Does it stop crashing if you comment out the body of VIDSoftDeInit in vidsoft.c? The OpenGL de-initialization code there might be the issue.

It unfortunately still crashes.

I tried latest sources built with VS2015 on 3 other machines, and couldn't get Yabause working :/
(Surprisingly, Yabaused crashes on startup on one test machine, while it still crashes on program close on my main laptop.)

I just updated yabause wiki about environment setup (here).
If a Yabause Windows developer could see what's wrong with latest sources and VS2015 compiling, that would be great :)

my laptop is a relatively old (2011)

The code was changed to use newer OpenGL so I wouldn't be surprised if it causes problems with some GPUs/drivers.

If yabause continues to support Visual Studio compiler

CyberWarriorX uses Visual Studio so I think support is not going to be dropped.

I should catch this occasion to update the wiki about development environment setup

That would be great, thanks!

Interested by theses informations too :)
I don't plan to buy a new laptop for a while, so I hope it is still suitable for latest yabause.

It seems you guessed right, because problem starts to occur from this commit.
I merged previous version of src/vidsoft.c from sources in this commit to 32f686fe95c8f42fc4fb652cbf1649dfbbb7f0b1, and yabause no longer crashes on program close.
Also (in order to be sure of the culprit), I re-merged the same vidsoft.c to sources at this commit (= 10 days after try above), and yabause still no longer crashes on program close.
I didn't tested with more recent sources, because program structure changed too much, basically because of multithreading support.

> If you can do a git bisect on those commits we should be able to figure out if that's the case.

I have to confess I'm not at that level of ease with git shell, so I continued with my low-end way of investigating (= compiling several sources in order to get closer and closer of first problematic one).

> but it could be a Qt problem

Probably, because this problem doesn't happens with official build made using Msys2.
Or probably not, because my laptop is a relatively old (2011) one, and not designed for gaming/emulation, so maybe not meeting minimal requirement for nowadays yabause.

Please keep me informed if/when Yabause Team plan to fix this problem.
(I'm not an OpenGl wizard, so the best I can do on my side is just compilation/verification jobs.)
If yabause continues to support Visual Studio compiler, and get this problem fixed, I should catch this occasion to update the wiki about development environment setup :)

Support / I don't know how to get past the Saturn startup spaceship thing.
« Last post by ToastyEngineer on September 02, 2016, 08:32:14 PM »
I've got the BIOS and cue file (it's Rayman 1 if you're wondering) and I have everything set up correctly. I have to hit hard reset for it to work for some reason but when I do it cuts to this spaceship area and just some weird tone that goes away if I move the cursor. If I hit play more tones come through and sometimes I can't hit play at all and I can only hit Skip Forward/Backwards.
I'm not sure why this happens but i'd appreciate some help!

Does anybody know what are the official (notice how I emphasize the word "official"), minimum & recommended specs to run this emulator?

Thanks for looking into it further, in that range I'd guess the OpenGL changes are the most likely to be the issue, but it could be a Qt problem. If you can do a git bisect on those commits we should be able to figure out if that's the case.

Tried with Msys2 : installing pacman, as described on Msys2 homepage fried msys2 itself (cygwin-ish command prompt no longer displays when I run msys shortcut) ... I knew that I was bad in setting up development environment, but not at that point :D

Then, I tried to compile 0.9.15 sources in the following environments :
 - Qt 5.7.0 (latest version) + VS2015 -> crash on Yabause application close
 - Qt 5.3.2 + VS2010 (= environment I used until now) -> crash on Yabause application close

Well, since I reinstalled my previous development environment (<mylife>I recently switched my dev laptop's OS from Win7 32 bits to Win7 64 bits</mylife>), I gave a try with it (Qt 5.3.2 + VS2010 + 0.9.14 sources), and it compiled/executed fine :]
Merging sources from latest ones to this stable environment should help to spot what's wrong here, but that's a bit too heavy task for me ^^;

Just to sum up what I tried so far :
 - Qt 5.6.0 + VS2015 (x64) + 0.9.15 sources -> crash on Yabause application close
 - Qt 5.6.1 + VS2015 (x64) + 0.9.15 sources -> crash on Yabause application close
 - Qt 5.7.0 + VS2015 (x64) + 0.9.15 sources -> crash on Yabause application close
 - Qt 5.3.2 + VS2010 (x86) + 0.9.15 sources -> crash on Yabause application close
 - Qt 5.3.2 + VS2010 (x86) + 0.9.14 sources -> OK

Edit :
I compiled several old versions from source with Qt 5.6.0 + VS2015 (x64), and had the following test results :
 - 2015/08/18 -> seems to work fine
 - 2015/08/23 -> crashes on program close
 - 2015/08/30 -> crashes on program close

Related commits are around here : https://github.com/Yabause/yabause/commits/master?page=20
Do you have an idea about any commit that could cause problem ? Maybe QtMultimedia ?

The official build is actually being done with MSYS2, you'd have to ask CyberWarriorX about the specific version but it's probably the latest one. The Qt version is whatever is included in the package manager. There's some instructions on how to compile here: http://wiki.yabause.org/index.php5?title=Readme_QT#MSYS2

I tried both settings, but it crashed in both cases.

Do you have a link to MinGW/Qt/etc versions used for official build ?
I don't have any particular preference over Visual Studio, and hence am OK to give a try with MinGW.
